MY OH MY!

Well since I last wrote we have been on quite and adventure!
This storey dates back to August 10, 2010...ah hem..
Day 1
It was a hot and muggy evening. A storm was beginning to brew and Mike and I had just gotten comfortable on the sofa with Lil Mikey all snuggely in to bed when all of a sudden...DARKNESS! We ran for the flashlights and candles and to the windows to make sure we were not alone in the dark but alas, we were. All of the neighbors lights were on. Mike looked out of the living room window and was surprised to see our 100+ year old tree has lost a limb bigger than any of our other trees right down on our power line. Well in fear that the rest of the tree would come down on the house, Mike rushed up stairs and got Lil Mikey out of bed. He was instantly awake with all the excitement! We spent the next hour trying to find out who to call when you have a down power line in your yard and just got the run around. Mike decided to go to the gas station to see if they had a number of who to call. During this time I was speaking with my dad on the phone about what he thought we should do when Mike beeped in, "What do you need out of your car?" I said, "What?" He yelled, "WHAT DO YOU NEED OUT OF YOUR CAR???" I said, "I dunno nothing what's going on?" Well it turns out on his way he ran into some flash flooding and he and the car were floating away! It was insane! So I scooped up Mikey (in his diaper only) and ran out the door and jumped into Mikes truck, Mikey on my lap (car seat was in my car) and flew through the rain to rescue my husband!
We picked him up, soaked to the waist from the flood and the rest of him too because it was pouring and went on our way to the gas station to look for help. We ended up at our wonderful friends and daycare's house dropping Mikey off at 10:30 at night so we could go home and take care of the mess we were in with the house AND now the car! Luckily Mike and Mike (daycare) were able to push the car out of the "flood" and on to dry land so it didn't float any further away.
Made it home to meet the city there as they shut off this live wire. The we went to the neighbors, the WONDERFUL Platte's to charge our phones, store the milk in the fridge, and sit in air conditioning for about 15 minutes before heading home.
Next thing before bed (it's midnight by now) I'm sitting in the Blazer, because it had power, calling the car insurance company to claim my flooded car. Finally we headed off to bed...but it was a long while before I fell asleep that night.
Day 2
Let the clean up begin.
First thing in the morning,
1. Text Jodi to check on Mikey to make sure he is fine (still sleeping of course!)
2. Call the house insurance company
3. Go out and take a look at the damage in the day light, always MUCH worse considering the limb that fell was larger than any other tree in our yard, and our trees are taller than our 2 storey house.
4. Start gathering friends and family for help!
By the end of the day we had over 1/2 of the tree chopped up and taken away or stored for campfire wood! Thanks to all those who helped in this CRAZY cleaning process!
Okay, since then the tree has been completely cleaned up and life has gone back to normal....NOT! Okay the tree is cleaned up...
We just found out yesterday August 23rd, that they were going to be paying off my car in full and sending us a check, so that was 13 days...but you know we wont get that check for at least 2 weeks...So thankfully the weather has been nice enough for dad to ride his bike and I have been able to drive his car.
Now last night Mike's truck broke! Ball joints or something like that.
So as of last evening we were down to one car, and it's not even ours!!!!!!!!! Luckily he is pretty handy and should be able to fix it himself! :) Gotta love a handy man!
Now all of this sucks, but it really made me realize how "things" are not important and people are. We were all safe except for the groceries in the fridge!
Since then I am sure most of you have heard,
Friday August 20 Dad had a MILD heart attack.
They performed a cardiac cath on Friday afternoon and have
decided it is time for the dreaded bypass surgery.
We all knew this day would come, and it sure has.
For right now, Dad is home with mom until
Friday when he will have the surgery.
He seems to be doing well, just tired.
So if anyone decides they want to just
drop in for a visit, maybe you should
call first to make sure he is awake! :)
If you look below I have been trying to upload pictures
from my new phone. I think they turned out well!
The ones of the car seats is showing how nasty and moldy my
car got from sitting in the lovely HEAT we have had!
